Nutrition-Related Prevention in Switzerland: From Knowledge to Action
What does nutrition-related prevention look like in Switzerland today and where do we go from here?
At our 2nd SRN-HN Forum, which took place yesterday 24 September 2026, Prof. Dr. Sabine Rohrmann opened the discussion by taking us through the current landscape of prevention in Switzerland: from national strategies and nutrition policies to the challenges of translating knowledge into action.
Switzerland already has a range of strategies and measures addressing nutrition, NCD prevention, health literacy and healthy environments. The current Swiss Nutrition Strategy 2025–2032 aims to promote a balanced and sustainable diet for everyone, with action areas including information and education, framework conditions, coordination and cooperation, and monitoring and research.
One message stood out:
Knowing is not the same as doing.
People may know the food pyramid and understand recommendations, yet adherence to dietary recommendations remains much more difficult.
So the question is not simply “Do people know what is healthy?”
It is also:
Are our prevention measures effective?
Are we creating environments that make healthier choices easier?
Are we investing enough in prevention?
And how can research help us move from knowledge to action?
These questions are particularly relevant as Switzerland continues to implement its NCD strategy through 2028 and develops the next generation of prevention policy.
